In Gurram Paapi Reddy, Naresh Agastya leads the plot. In many ways, the film is a first-of-its-kind for him. Hitherto seen in secondary roles in movies like Mathu Vadalara, the young actor has played a leading role for the first time ever.
In this interview, Naresh talks about the dark comedy thriller and more. "While projects like Vikata Kavi and Senapathi found their primary audience on OTT platforms, I am excited to keep pushing boundaries with this new venture," he says about his career.
Gurram Paapi Reddy will open in theatres with Thursday night premiers. The full-fledged release happens on Friday (December 19).
My character drives the plot of a hunt for a dead body. Whose dead body it is will be an exciting, suspenseful factor. In this search, he deliberately picks a bunch of unintelligent folks. Since the characters go through obstacles and nothing comes easy to them, fun gets generated situationally. While being comedic at every turn, the story keeps moving forward.
My character in the film is a bit loud; he shouts and is anything but subtle. I am the ring-master of a con job being executed by a gang.
I journeyed with director Murali Manohar for a year before the shoot began. The narrative explores the consequences of intellectual irony: the moments when the brilliant stumble into folly and the simple-minded find unexpected wisdom. Since the story and situations are unique, the content of the trailer shaped up so well. Everyone has been appreciating it.
What the audience experience is fun when characters are in trouble or face tragedies in dark comedies. That's what makes the genre unique. I have shared screen space with Yogi Babu. I don't have scenes involving Brahmanandam garu.
Comedies need able actors to do justice to the situations. Gurram Paapi Reddy has benefited from the acting talents like Faria Abdullah, Rajkumar Kasireddy, and Vamsidhar Kosgi. The work atmosphere on set was quite a vibe.
I have high hopes for my upcoming project next year, which is already 70% complete. My goal is to consistently take on films with fresh, innovative concepts. Filming in the Sahara Desert was a ground-breaking experience for an upcoming movie of mine. I am not a trained actor. I don't attempt dramatic acting. The only consideration I have in mind is whether I am being able to convey the emotion.
